Since 2000, The Florida School Choice Fund (FSCF) Inc., a private nonprofit 501(c)(3), has been working to empower low-income parents with educational options for their children.
The mission of the FSCF is to improve K-12 education in Florida through parental choice programs that advantage children from low-income and working class families.
FSCF seeks to spur improvements in the K-12 education system by equipping all of Florida's parents with the tools to seek the best education for their children through educational option programs – such as the Step Up For Students Tax Credit Scholarship Program and the McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities. Educational option programs provide a healthy competition for all K-12 schools. FSCF strives to close the education gaps throughout the state to ensure that all children – no matter their socio-economic status – receive the tools to become productive members in their communities.
Parental choice is a basic concept that has transformed the lives of thousands of children. It is the means by which we give parents the freedom to choose the best education for their own children. Parental choice is vital for children, especially those in low-income families, as it is the means by which most of them can escape the cycle of poverty. It is vital for public education, because it gives public schools a powerful incentive to improve and serve the needs of all children.
